Minneapolis Convention Center
The 540,000 square-foot addition will include two new
exhibition halls. The project presented unique challenges.
Paramount was matching the unique roof structure of the
current facility. A "space frame and dome structure" similar
to the one covering the existing area was built over the new
exhibition space. The dome, at 210 feet in diameter and 85
feet in height consists of intricate steel framing with its own
special fabrication and erection needs.
NSC met the erection challenges by assembling the
components on the ground. The finished structure
is then lifted into place with a computer-aligned system
of four, diesel-powered, hydraulic jacks. NSC used a similar
approach on the Northwest Airlines terminal project.
