Ranking fueled by a 66 percent revenue jump to $97.7M in 2014; NSC also moves up from #302 to #203 among the nation’s Top 600 specialty contractors.

Plymouth, Mich., Nov. 23, 2015 – National Steel City, one of the nation’s leading steel construction and erection companies, today announced it has been ranked the third largest structural steel erector in the United States, according to Engineering News-Record’s Top 600 Specialty Contractors edition published Oct. 26. The ranking was fueled by a 66 percent revenue jump to $97.7M in 2014. ENR also reported NSC’s rank among the Top 600 specialty contractors jumped to 203 from 302, based on the company’s year-over-year growth in the Power industry.

“This important ranking through a respected source like ENR provides our customers with periodic validation they deserve in knowing they are doing business with one of the nation’s leading structural steel erectors,” said NSC Chief Executive Officer Bob Dunn. “We take pride in our decades spent tackling some of the country’s most complex heavy industrial steel erection projects.”

NSC’s revenue surge has been fueled by major award contract wins and repeat Power industry business, based on its leadership position as one of the nation’s leading project contractors for the electric utility and heavy industrial markets. NSC projects include the erection of single and combined cycle natural gas power plants, erecting HRSGs and Air Cooled Condensers (ACCs), along with the erection of turbine buildings, the rough-setting of all mechanical equipment including the rigging work, and the heavy haul of components.

NSC’s focus on Air Quality Control Systems ranges from FGDs, SCRs and Fabric Filters to turnkey Scrubber and Precipitator retrofits, and its industry-recognized safety and productivity efforts are validated by EMR, TRIR and DART rates that to demonstrate its top-down safety culture is leading a new industry standard in industrial safety.

Earlier in 2015, NSC became one of the first companies to implement a 24/7 safety everywhere initiative titled SAWHORSE (Safety At Work, Home, Office, Recreation, Safety Everywhere) to heighten awareness and foster a culture of safety for all NSC employees. In addition to extremely competitive EMR and TRIR rates, National Steel City enjoys a five-times lower OSHA Recordable Incident Rate than the industry average and holds one of the industry’s lowest DART rates.

Last year, NSC was awarded Southern Company’s coveted Triangle Safety Award for outstanding safety construction performance on Southern Company projects. The Triangle Safety Award is bestowed annually by Southern Company and recognizes select contractors who achieve high thresholds of safety construction performance.
