NSC erected 11,000 tons of structural steel and installed 1,000,000 sq. ft. of metal deck for the largest infrastructure project in Kansas City’s history, the replacement and modernization of Kansas City International Airport (KCI)

Structural Steel Erection

  • Erected 11,000 tons of primary and secondary structural steel for the new terminal building
  • Included steel framing for long-span roofs roof box girders and field assembled Y columns

Metal Deck Installation

  • Installed approximately 1,000,000+ sq. ft. of floor and roof metal deck supporting terminal floors, elevated walkways, and roof systems

Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS)

  • Provided  fit-up of field assembled and welded Y columns to meet AESS category 2 & 3 requirements

Safety Performance

  • Completed 60 critical lifts without any recordable incidents, demonstrating industry-leading safety execution on complex multi-crane lifts
  • During COVID-19 operational constraints, NSC developed and deployed proximity-sensor systems that allowed craft personnel to work collaboratively while maintaining required six-foot separation

Schedule Performance

  • Worked closely with the on-site construction manager to develop optimized erection sequencing, reducing crane count from three to two and shortening the schedule from 13 months to 11 months
